The International Early Childhood Education Conference Drew 1.208 Teachers and Pre-Service Teachers
FITK News- Early childhood education is fundamental and indispensable for the development of children. Early childhood educators must be provided with specialized competencies and resources to develop into knowledgeable, creative, and professional educators capable of maximizing each child's unique potential. Early Childhood Islamic Education Study Program (PIAUD)—Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Education (FITK) UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, Centre of Excellence (CoE)—UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, Centre of Excellence—Educating for the Future (a partnership of education and research programs of the UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, Universitas Negeri Jakarta, Victoria University of Wellington, and the University of South Australia) in collaboration with the Victoria University of Wellington's Faculty of Education, hosted an International Early Childhood Education Conference with the theme "Enhancing Student Excellence and Well-being in Early Childhood Education: Practices and Strategies." This event took place from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 19, 2020. This conference drew a total of 1,208 participants through Zoom Meet and YouTube: educators, including professors, lecturers, and teachers, and students enrolled in PIAUD, PPG, and other study programs at UIN Jakarta and other educational institutions around Indonesia. The event was opened with entertaining riddles in Indonesian and English by Master of Ceremony (MC), Rosida Erowati, M.Hum, a lecturer of Indonesian Language Education, FITK, UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta. Following that was the welcoming event, which began with a speech and activity report from the committee's chairman, Yubaedi Siron, M.Pd. Second, remarks from FITK's dean, Dr. Sururin, M.Ag., who commended the CoE and PIAUD Study Program on their synergy in conceiving, arranging, and conducting the conference. After that, Dr. Rahmatullah, M.Ag., led a joint prayer. The keynote address was then presented by Prof. Dr. Hj. Amany Lubis, M.A., Rector of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakatra. The rector stressed the need for early childhood education to develop flexible hybrid learning through the use of traditional and digital learning resources. She urged teachers and student teachers to continue their professional development and to take advantage of this conference's opportunity to discuss and learn about cutting-edge educational technologies.  The session then moved on to the first panel, hosted by Dzikri Rahmat Romadhon, M.PFis, and featuring two speakers from Victoria University of Wellington in New Zealand, Dr. Amarie Carnett and Dr. Kelly D. Carasco. The session, titled "Interventions in the Classroom Environment to Encourage Prosocial Behaviours," began with a brief introduction by Prof. Stephen Dobson, Dean of Victoria University of Wellington's Faculty of Education. The attendees listened intently, and the speakers were impressed by the participants' engagement and enthusiasm for this fully English session. The second panel, titled "Practices and Strategies for Emotional, Religious, and Cognitive Development in Early Childhood," featured four all-female speakers, including Dr. Siti Khadijah, M.A., who discussed ways to boost children's spiritual intelligence during a pandemic; Dr. Yayah Nurmaliyah, M.A., who discussed the development of Islamic Religious Education in Early Childhood Education; Miratul Hayati, M.Pd, discussed how to promote children's emotional intelligence through drawing exercises; while Ratna Faeruz, M.Pd, discussed the importance of critical thinking in early childhood education. Dr. Azkia Muharom Abantani, M.Pd.I. led this panel with ease and humour in three languages: Indonesian, Arabic, and English. After a one-hour break, the program resumed with the third panel, hosted by Latifatul Hasanah, M.Pd., on "Teachers' Roles and Parental Involvement in Early Childhood Education." Dr. Fidrayani, M.Pd., Yubaedi Siron, M.Pd., and Ferdinal Lafendry, M.Pd. were the three presenters. They discussed disparate but linked subjects, including the efficacy and procrastination of pre-service teachers during the pandemic, parental involvement in science education for children with down syndrome, and how to become happy educators in the new normal. The final session, which began at 2:30 p.m., was a workshop on research and scientific publications. It featured speakers Maila Dinia Husni Rahiem, M.A., Ph.D., director of the Centre of Excellence—UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, who discussed current trends in educational research and publications; and Maya Defianty, M.Pd., Ph.D., CoE's head of publications and collaborations, who discussed ways to boost writing productivity. Dewi Salistina, M.Pd, moderated this session. Six door prize winners were announced at the end of this all-day event, notably the finest questioners on each panel. Dr. Siti Khadijah, M.A., the head of PIAUD, concluded this eight-hour conference activity by applauding and thanking the lecturers and students who helped make this PIAUD big event a success.
