427 Teachers Participated in the Center of Excellence's International Workshop
FITK News- On Wednesday, (30/6/2021), the Centre of Excellence at UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, the Faculty of Educational Science at UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, and the South Tangerang Office of the Ministry of Religious Affairs organized a teacher workshop. This is the second time the three parties have successfully held a collaborative workshop. The first activity drew 297 madrasah teachers from Tangerang Selatan, while this one drew 427 participants across Indonesia, including instructors, supervisors, and madrasah principals. The topic of the workshop was "Teaching and Assessing Critical Thinking Competence: Theories and Practices." The workshop lasted eight hours, from 7.30 to 16.15. Dr. Sururin, M.Ag., Dean of the Faculty of Educational Science, opened the occasion with remarks, explaining that the teacher workshop in South Tangerang is a pilot program in high demand by local governments and religious ministry offices in other districts. Following that, remarks from the head of the madrasah at the Ministry of Religious Affairs' office in South Tangerang were made. Dr. H. Suhardi, M.Ag., desired that this program continue and that teachers make the best possible use of this opportunity. Following that, Prof. Dr. Hj. Amany Lubis, M.A., Rector of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, launched the event and presented the keynote speech, highlighting the need to instill critical thinking in students from an early age. To ensure a smooth and blessed workshop, the vice dean of students, cooperation, and alumni, Dr. Khalimi, M.Ag.,  led a collective prayer. Associate Professor Dr. Nur Surayyah Madhubala Abdullah of Universiti Putra Malaysia in Serdang, Malaysia, opened the workshop's first session with a presentation on assessment in learning. Following that, a lecturer from the Faculty of Educational Science, UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, Maya Defianty, Ph.D., discussed evaluation for learning in the Indonesian context. Dzikri Rahmat Romadhon, M.Pfis, moderated these two sessions. At 10:00, the third session began with a talk by Professor Kate Wilson of Canberra University. Prof. Kate Wilson, an expert in TESOL, discussed the importance of critical thinking in the classroom. Maila Dinia Husni Rahiem, Ph.D., moderated this discussion. The next speaker was Dr. Nada Ghamra-oui of Sydney's NNG Educational Consultancy, who offered her perspectives and observations on embedding critical thinking in an Islamic school in Australia. The program resumed at 1 PM following a one-hour break, with moderator Rosida Erowati, M.Hum, and speaker Dr. Zulfiani, M.Pd. Both are lecturers in the Educational Science faculty. The afternoon program focused on the practices of assessing and teaching critical thinking in classroom. Dr. Zulfiani discussed the need to harmonize teaching and assessment. The final session, titled Applying critical thinking-based assessment in math and science, language learning, and social science classes, was moderated by Ratna Faeruz, M.Pd. and featured three speakers, all of whom teach at UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, but in very different subjects. Dr. Tita Khalis Maryati, M.Kom, discussed how critical thinking is taught in Math and Science classes, and then Dr. Ratna Sari Dewi, M.Pd. demonstrated how English lessons could help students develop their critical thinking skills. Dr. Muhammad Arif, M.Pd. was the final speaker and discussed the need for critical thinking in the humanities and social sciences. The program concluded with reflections and words from Maila Dinia Husni Rahiem, Ph.D., director of the Centre of Excellence. She expressed her gratitude to the Faculty of Educational Science UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, the South Tangerang office of the Ministry of Religious Affairs, all participants, and the management of the Centre of Excellence for their collaborative efforts in designing, collaborating, and organizing workshop activities.
